Vivienne Westwood changed my life. Meeting her and having the privilege to work for her remains one of the most defining experiences of my journey—not just as a creative woman, but as a human being. She was my greatest inspiration, not only for her groundbreaking artistry but for her passionate activism, her fearless voice, and her unapologetic spirit in the fight to protect our planet.
It is because of this legendary woman’s indomitable spirit that I am who I am today. Words cannot fully capture the depth of her influence on me or the way she touched my soul.
This photograph was taken in London, 2010—behind the scenes, in the dressing room, mere moments before the Red Label Fashion Show began. In retrospect, I cannot recall capturing a portrait so simple, yet so electrifying. In this moment, SHE KNEW. It was as if her gaze, her presence, carried a profound gift—a pause that resonated with reverence and timeless power.
When Dame Vivienne Westwood passed away in December 2022, Harper’s Bazaar UK used this portrait to announce the heartbreaking news of her passing. It was one of the greatest honors of my life to see this image—a testament to her spirit—shared with the world.
